If you are looking for an upcoming Art show to go to, you’re in luck! Oakwood has an Art show coming up in March! The Art Show will be on Thursday, March 26th at 4 pm to 6 pm. It will be held in the Monk Hall gym at Oakwood. There will also be some art pieces in the Oakwood library. In the library, it will be turned into a Mermaid’s Lagoon, which will have our glow gallery.
The Art Show welcomes art projects of all grade levels. I have talked with one of the art teachers, Mr. Allen. Mr. Allen has said that his upper school classes, Art exploration, Ceramics, and Studio Art, will have their projects included in the Art show. Each student in his Ceramics class will have 4 personal projects, and 5 teacher-assigned projects; 9 projects in total that are going to be shown. Each student in his Studio art classes has about 5-6 projects that are going to be shown.
The Art show’s theme this year is Fairytale; the Upper School students had the choice to either go with the theme or choose their own theme. The National Art Honors Society will also be a part of the Art show by helping set up all the wonderful, different art pieces and doing face painting for people who are at the art show. This Art show is very important because it shows off students’ hard work, talent, and skill, but also shows what students have learned from their art classes they are currently taking here at Oakwood. These student’s art work communicates visually what art means to them and how important it is for them.
Since the students’ artwork is important, it’s also important to be respectful and have Gallery Etiquette at any art show you go to. Some ways you can be respectful at an art show are to avoid touching ANY art pieces, but especially clay sculptures. Another way we can be respectful is to walk instead of running, which can prevent knocking over any art pieces or accidentally running into them. I hope to see many students and adults coming to support all of our Oakwood artists!
