Ceramics 2026
Since coming back from winter break, the ceramics class has been focusing on painting last year’s projects with color which is called glaze. Then we have been trying to do a biskfiring to some of the other projects like the abstract vessels with a void. Fun fact: did you know that some other countries call bisk-firing, biscuit. Similar to how there are baking shows, some ceramic artists around the world participate in ceramic shows. Which is where we learned the term “Biscuit” from. Moving back to oakwood ceramics though, with recent cold weather and snow, it prevents some of our projects from being fired at all. The kiln cannot be used during cold weather because the elements may affect the biskfire process. Finally, some of the other projects have been biskfired and are ready to be colored in glaze hopefully in time to be in the oakwood art show. In the meantime of waiting for the kiln however, the students have been working on their own personal projects, exploring and learning the potential to their abilities and imagination.
Along with the personal projects, the ceramics class have made a cool but simple two-pieced project called the bobble heads. They are supposed to be based off of cartoon characters from popular movies, shows, etc.
