A: I am Javier Amador, I have about two decades of experience in education, language instruction, and cross-cultural communication. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education from Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica and obtained North Carolina licensure in K-12 Spanish and Social Studies.I taught Spanish and social studies in a variety of educational settings, including International Baccalaureate® programs, immersion classrooms, and public schools across North Carolina and Costa Rica.
Q: I’ve noticed you have an accent, and am wondering if you come from another country.
A: I was born in Costa Rica.
Q: Please, tell me a little about your original hometown.
A: My place of birth is San José, capital city of Costa Rica, it used to be a small and very safe place when I was a kid. I am not sure how it is nowadays.
Q: What were some of your favorite things about your hometown?
A: The way nature was still present at that time.
Q: How did you find Oakwood?
A: After returning from a 2 year tenure in an international school, my family relocated to Ayden, and I sent interest letters to several schools in the Greenville area.
Q: Do you enjoy teaching at Oakwood?
A: Absolutely. I am thrilled to be part of this educational community.
Q: How would you describe your teaching style?
A: Authentic, hands-on.
Q: Do you like the students? And who, if anyone, is your favorite student?
A: I love my students. I do not believe in favorites, I rather center my teaching style around building positive relationships/reports with my students.
Q: Could you tell us what some of your hobbies are?
A: I enjoy all things nature, that’s pretty much it.
Q: What type of music do you listen to, and if you can, please tell us your favorite musical artist?
A: I listen to a wide range of different musical styles or currents, always avoiding the strident (loud and heavy music, i.e. heavy metal.) Most of the time I prefer ballads. I’m currently listening to acoustic songs from Pablo Alboran.
Q: What types of food do you enjoy?
A: Mediterranean. It is my absolute favorite.
Q: If you could teach any other subject, what would it be?
A: Social Studies.
Q: You have a dog, correct? Could you please provide details about her? Some of our readers are curious.
A: Yes. Her name is Maggie, she is a puggle, which is a mix of a pug and a beagle. She’s mischievous, and very loving.
