One of the most exciting things about being in 8th grade is the Washington D.C. trip! Students get to explore the many wonders of our country, right from the nation’s capital. This trip will give you the opportunity to see an important landmark of our nation’s founding and to experience its rich history up close. That’s the best part – it’s a hands-on learning adventure with no textbooks required! And don’t worry, it’s not going to be a bunch of boring lectures either. We’ll be traveling, exploring new places, and making memories that will last for years. This is one of our first big out-of-state trips as a class, and it’s one we’ll never forget.
Now, how should you prepare for this exciting escapade? First, the weather. It’s going to be chilly—definitely colder than what we’re used to in North Carolina. So, pack lots of warm clothes: a good jacket, a hat, and gloves. Temperatures will likely be in the 50s to low 70s, but since we’ll be outside a lot, it’s best to be prepared. Also, expect a lot of walking, so make sure to bring comfy and walkable shoes! And of course, one of the best parts of the trip will be spending time with friends and classmates. The hotel nights will feel like mini sleepovers, and we’ll get to take tons of photos together at all the cool and historic sites. It’s something really special to look forward to.
We’ll meet at school on the 27th at 8 a.m. and take a charter bus all the way to Washington, D.C, about a seven-hour ride! So bring some entertainment like card games or books for the trip. It’ll be four days packed with fun, learning, and adventure, both day and night.
It’s such an amazing opportunity to go on this trip. Many schools don’t get the chance to do something like this, but at Oakwood, we do! We get to experience the heart of our nation and learn about the foundations of our country. This trip will even help prepare us for future travels—like the exciting international trips we’ll take in high school. But for now, this one is just for us 8th graders—a chance to make memories we’ll look back on as seniors, when we’re ready to go out into the world and make our mark.
