In a room filled with raised placards, delegates from across the nation, Oakwood stepped onto the global stage at AMERIMUN. This past week, members of Oakwood’s Model United Nations team traveled to Washington, D.C., to compete in AMERIMUN, a national-level conference bringing together students from across the country at American University. Over the course of 3, we represented nations in simulated United Nations committees, debating global issues, drafting resolutions, and negotiating complex political agreements.
Whether you are a first-time delegate or seasoned diplomat, MUN has something for you! Ranging from engaging committees like General Assemblies (GAs) or Crisis, you will find something that brings out your leadership. Beyond formal debate sessions, AMERIMUN provided students with an opportunity to connect with peers who share an interest in global affairs and diplomacy. The conference challenged us to think critically, compromise effectively, and defend our ideas with confidence.
I had the opportunity to represent the United States in a Historical General Assembly simulating the 1919 Paris Peace Conference. Delegates, like myself, stepped into the roles of world leaders following the First World War, debating about war reparations, territorial restructuring, and the creation of a new international peace organization. Other delegates had the opportunity to compete in committees about the July Crisis, the cabinet of Poland, Ad Hoc, and so much more!
AMERIMUN was an experience that I, along with my teammates, will never forget. This was my very first Model UN conference; however, thanks to Mrs. Imbimbo and our wonderful presidents, Kanishka and Morgan, I now feel confident in my skills as a delegate! They led our team of 10 to D.C. I will never forget the snow in DC and the people I met there. We had the amazing opportunity to talk to some delegates from a team that had traveled all the way from Italy to compete at American University! AMERIMUN XIII will always be remembered. GO EAGLES
