What inspired you to become a chemistry teacher?
- I’ve always enjoyed helping others and as I have progressed through school, chemistry and physics were my favorites.
What other schools or positions have you taught prior to joining us?
- “Green County Middle School, South Central High School, Childcare Network as a Daycare teacher, interned at HJ McDonald Middle School”
How would you describe your teaching style?
- Organized Chaos, I know what I’m doing and 9 out of 10 times I come up with the assignments off the top of my head. I give them surveys on what I’m doing and how I can make it better for them.
What’s your approach to making chemistry engaging for students who might find it challenging or intimidating?
- I give real world connections to as much as I can, I am straightforward with the difficulty of the topic.
How do you encourage curiosity and exploration in your classroom?
- I tell them to Google things a lot, we might go on a random tangent sometimes in class and that also encourages them to look things up. I also have a great relationship with them.
What is your favorite part of teaching chemistry?
- When my student has been struggling, and suddenly gets it. I love seeing that.
What is your favorite part about oakwood?
- The smaller class sizes because I can engage with them on a better level and see where they are.
