Once upon a time,
Nasturtium the vibrant melody
Created to lend defence sublime
Eternally grateful garnish, through fidelity
Ugly assassins reave her of youth
Perrish’s along with the pencil
One who’s of the same vein truth No one espy’s the pure mind then-still,
All dry from plants that thirst for ease
Time replenishes the pencils soil
Its alone but freed from droughts seize
Mighty pencil creates again, drinking wisdom toil
Eventually unshackled from assassins and amiable peas
Poet’s note:
Theme: always feeling the need to give something up for others growth/ benefit.
The poem is about a plant character created to sacrifice herself for others, expressing the poet’s feelings about how she always feels the need to help others. She wants to tell others to put yourself first sometimes to allow yourself to grow, hence the fact the poem is about plants.
