In Studio Art, we have begun working on one of our first projects. To start the project process, we first crafted a guiding statement. A guiding statement is a way to figure out what principal of art we want to focus on, subject matter, what size we want to work with, mediums or process and an artist’s art-style we want to include.
After finding our guiding statement, we created a vision board including some photos showing what we want in our artwork. We chose 5 photos of each idea, so we have some different examples to work from.
We also worked on experimenting with what medium or process we want to use. Mr. Allen, our art studio art teacher, helps us figure out how to experiment with our mediums by finding different worksheets that work for the mediums we chose. One example of this is if you wanted to work with pen ink, you could do a work sheet exploring different pen ink weights and values.
After we were done completing similar experiments, we worked on three or more thumbnails. Creating thumbnails involves drawing a little idea of what we want our art project to look like without so much detail. We can come up with more thumbnails but we are required to have at least three for every project we do.
Once we finished them, we began working on our rough draft of the piece. The rough draft is similar to the thumbnails, though it includes color and more detail. We only do one rough draft, but if we end up not liking it we can start over and try something different.
We have the freedom to do our project on just about anything. When we finish our rough draft, we will move on to our final draft. Here are some examples of the experimenting process, and our rough draft in these photos.
